Lisa Montgomery’s plea that she was delusional during the murder of Bobbie Jo Stinnett was rejected after four hours of deliberation by a jury. She is charged with strangling Bobbie Jo Stinnett to death. Stinnett was pregnant and expected to have a child. After strangling the victim to death, Bobbie Jo Stinnett was reported to have taken a kitchen knife and then cutting the baby out from the womb afterwards.
The defense lawyers have argued that Lisa Montgomery was mentally insane, possibly to avoid her getting the death penalty. Prosecutors are seeking that Lisa Montgomery gets sentenced to death for her crimes because it is a kidnapping that resulted in death. However, the baby, a girl had survived.
Currently, the baby, Victoria Jo Stinnett is with her father. She is almost three years old.
It is said that Montgomery met the couple at a dog show in Kansas during April of 2004. The meeting was orchestrated by Montgomery herself. She set up a fake profile to set up a meeting with the family on the false pretense of wanting to buy a terrier puppy. At the meeting, she strangled Bobbie Jo Stinnett with a role before hacking the chopping the womb up and taking the baby from it.
Defense was trying to show the court that their client was a victim of mental illness being diagnosed with “pseudocyesis.” They also went with an argument that she had PTSD as a result of getting abused mentally, physically, and sexually when she was a science.
The federal prosecutor for the case dubbed it as “voodoo science.”
Montgomery was arrested the next day after the murder. She was showing off the infant as her own in Melvern, Kansas.
The verdict is in, Lisa Montgomery has been convicted. The prosecutors are seeking the death penalty while the defense is still arguing that she’s mentally ill.
