"Woman should be able to control their own cashflow," says the Deputy Minister of Human Resource and Development in the state of Sarawak,Malaysia.
The Deputy Minister, Datin Fatimah Abdullah, told a gathering in the village of Simunjan, that women must have their own income, be it full time or part-time.
"This income is extremely important in case something bad happens to the main breadwinner. Take for example an illness. The household would not be adversely affected if there is sufficient fund to cover such expenses," she addressed the villagers.
Datin Fatimah was officiating the closing ceremony of The leadership and Development Programme for rural Women held in the town of Simunjan about two hours taxi ride from Kuching.
She told the participants that among the many areas a woman can excel in is the Micro Food Industry which produced foodstuff as crackers and traditional biscuits.
‘Rural woman can participate in sheep rearing, poultry and duck rearing. They can also took part in vegetable growing," she added further.
The State of Sarawak have organised various courses and training to unlock the potential of rural woman.
