He said education of women and the girl child is a very important for the development and inclusive growth of the country.
The Minister was addressing a Function on Women Empowerment at Gandhi Nagar, here today.
Bhalla said that the Government has envisioned and implemented a number of programmes aimed at women empowerment which includes providing 50% reservation to women in Panchayati Raj elections, helping them to become self-reliant through different schemes. He said women are being guided to organise themselves in Self Help Groups (SHG) with the provision for financial assistance on easy terms to make them self reliant and independent. He said that the SHG scheme has proved a great success in encouraging the women entrepreneurship , particularly in agriculture and its allied sectors
He said that about 58 percent women got elected to Panchayati Raj institutions in the recently concluded elections, which was an encouraging sign towards their empowerment.
The Minister called upon the emancipated lot to help check female foeticide in the society which was become a grave social problem.
He further asked the educated women to work for their counterparts in rural areas by encouraging them towards education, health and hygiene.

Farooq Jan , General Secretary DPN told the audience that doors of DPN are not only open to women who want to fight the elections on reserved women seats but DPN would welcome competent & committed women to join their party & participate in these very important elections as general candidates as well.
He said that woman empowerment is very much necessary for development of the nation. He said recent trends are encouraging as the girls are at par to boys in every field. He said that the motive of our party is to give adequate space to women in party policies and programmes
Shehzadi Simon, the chief spokesperson of DPN while addressing the gathering said “We need to treat the girl child at par with her male siblings in every respect as women constitute half the population of the world. The health & well-being of world community therefore depends on the political, social, educational, economical health of this important constituent of world community”.
DPN party leader, Surya Rather presented the gathering with her own success story as a Sarpanch from an average village girl. She said that today she not only facilitates the redressal of women’s problems in her area but often extends helping hand to her village brothers.
Nazir Dialgami urged upon the women to participate whole heartedly in the coming municipality elections.
