Women Rights discussed in a one day workshop

One day training workshop for members of Human Rights Monitoring Committees.
LAPH condemned insult and openly beating of girl at Swat.

CHITRAL:  A one day training workshop was held here for members of Human Rights Monitoring Committees (HRMC) of entire district. The program was organized by easy and Equitable Access to Justice Program for Women a project of Legal Awareness Program for Human Rights (LAPH) funded by Trocaire Ireland. Niaz Ali Shah Chairman board of Directors  LAPH briefed the members comprising over male and female members from all over the district regarding aim and objectives of their organization. Chairman and Member board of Directors unanimously condemned brutality beating of a young girl at Swat and termed it unlawful act by extremist. He said that Chitral is a vast area by virtue of land consisting on 14850 square kilometers but there are only 48000 households. He said that it is not possible for main office of LAPH to watch and monitor each and every human rights violation  in such a scattered district and that is why LAPH  established  HRMC in different parts of the district to monitor these violations and to bring into the notice of main office at Chitral for remedy. He said that LAPH conducting awareness raising workshops in far flung areas as Chitral having 32 valleys some of them remain disconnect and out of reach in winter season due to heavy snowfall.

He said that LAPH working in 5 fields like awareness rising through seminars, workshops, training and conventions, media campaign and exposure visit. The Human rights organization also enhancing capacity building of police and judiciary staff through training workshops. As well as it arranging vocational training for women folk to enable them to gain their livelihood with fair and honor ways. He said that LAPH rehabilitates widow women by launching mini business for them with financial support to gain livelihood for their families and we also supporting poor and deserving female students at school and college level to continue their education. He said that the organization also providing free legal assistance to depress, helpless and deserving people at their 3 free legal aid centers (Booni, Drosh and Chitral). The human rights Chitral also documenting women rights and highlighting major issues confronting to women folk. He said that women are often ignoring in decision making and depriving from property rights. As well as they facing lack of access to legal aid and justice due to our customary practices and they face lack of institutional mechanism for protection and rehabilitation.

Miss Gulshad Begum Manager Monitoring and Evaluation highlighted women rights through united nation human rights charter and stressed upon the women folk to come forward and raise voice for their rights which will be supported by LAHP. Niaz A Niazi Advocate briefed the stake holders regarding human cum women rights on legal point of view. The stake holders were also given task for group working to raised women issues and to plan future strategy. They were divided in 4 different groups who excellently explained their views in their presentations. The stakeholders unanimously passed a resolution condemning high handedness of extremists in Swat and demanding for stopping their way.
