CHITRAL: Speakers stressed on masses to must involve women folk in decision making for sustainable development of the country as well as they must be give opportunity to work shoulder by shoulder with men for uplifting the nation. These views were expressed by experts in a one day workshop on human rights. The workshop was organized by Easy & Equitable Access to Justice Program for women of Chitral (EAAJP) a project of Legal Awareness program for Human Rights (LAPH) in collaboration with Human Rights Monitoring Committee (HRMC) Mastuj the activities are funding by Troacire an Irish based donor organization. The workshop was presiding over by Abdul Rehman a local social worker from Mastuj area (some 110 KM from here). Chairman Board of Director (LAPH) Niaz Ali Shah highlighted aim and objectives of his organization that working for uplifting of humanity especially protecting for women rights. He said that LAPH arranging seminars, workshops for awareness raising among the masses regarding human rights, as well as they aware the masses and students regarding human rights and women rights sensitization through different campaigns. He said that they also supporting widows for rehabilitation and help poor students to decrease dropt out ratio besides it they also provide free legal assistance to poor and helpless women of Chitral. For this purpose they have opened 3 free legal aid centers which help oppressed segment of the society. He specially thanked Tehsil Nazim Chitral Sartaj Ahmad Khan for his extra ordinary support for protecting human rights. He said that there is great discrimination in different agencies and women folk are totally ignoring. He said that there is only 135 schools for girls while 565 for boys, 606 female teachers but 1827 male teachers a male doctor have to check up 4000 patients but a lady doctor have to check 40000 patients while half of population based on women folk.
The participants comprising over both male and female were given the task to raise different issues regarding human rights and women rights violation in the area in group working. They sophisticatedly prepare their presentation and delivered before the stake holders both by male and female activists. The speakers highly condemned health department that the only Rural Health Center of Mastuj area is totally deprived from Doctor despite having the strength of 4 doctors. They said that there is no lady doctor in the area and that is why they are compelled to rush their women to Booni hospital in case of emergency but sometimes they expired on their way before reaching hospital due to dilapidated condition of the earthen road. They also alleged Aga Khan Health Service center for overcharging from poor patients. The speakers also stressed on protecting rights of special people and they demanded for benefiting them and facilitating them because they also an important component of the society. Those who spoke on the occasion were Niaz A Niazi, Haji Imatuddin, Nazir Shah, Bibi Saliha, Salahuddin, Muhayuddin and Miss Shakira Naz.
They said that although Islam has bestowed women rights some 1400 years ago but the Muslim have forgotten these principles and they thanked Trocaire that being a Non Muslim organization reminding us our basic principles for protecting women rights. The participants also lamented lack of educationals institutions in the area especially for women folk and that is why they are deprived from their basic rights and essential amenities due to no awareness. They appreciated efforts of LAPH and demanded for continuation of such fruitful seminars and workshops for awareness raising among the masses. A large number of male and female attended the workshop.
