Srinagar, March 8 (Scoop News) – Saying that the Women Folk could protect their rights only though education which become imperative for them in the modern age, the Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs and Rural Development, Ali Mohammad Sagar has said that the Women folk should go for higher studies also as they have tremendous talent which is evident from the results of various higher classes including KAS exams declared recently.
The Minister was addressing at a function organized by State Commission for Women here today organized for the first time in connection with International Women’s Day. The Vice Chairperson for State Commission for Women, Mrs. Shamim Firdous was also present on the occasion. Various speakers including girl students of various educational institutions also spoke on the occasion. Sagar said that it was former Chief Minister, Dr. Farooq Abdullah who ensured 50 percent reservation for girl students in the medical colleges, adding that though certain steps have been initiated for the development of women folk yet much has to be done still. He said 33 percent reservations have been made for women in the Panchayat elections and urged upon them to participate in these elections in a big way.
The Chairperson for State Commission for Women, Ms. Shamim Firdous highlighted the measures taken so far by the coalition government led by Omar Abdullah for providing all possible facilities for the prosperity of the women folk. She impressed upon the women to change their mind set and come forward to get acquainted with their rights.

Later, the Minister for Rural Development distributed cash prizes among the speakers.
