WOMEN’S CRAFT BAZAAR – 2013

All proceeds from the sales go to the women’s organizations, which include Women’s India Association (WIA), NAAM Foundation and others, apart from those supported by the C.P. RAMASWAMI AIYAR FOUNDATION.

 

Chennai, March 4,2013:  Since 1994, to celebrate International Women’s Day, C.P. Art Centre has been organising annual exhibitions of art, craft, textiles and food items made by women and women entrepreneurs. 

 

The Women’s Craft Bazaar is an annual feature in the itinerary of C.P. Art Centre’s activities. From a mere trickle of half a dozen women entrepreneurs, today the number of women participating in the annual craft bazaar has increased exponentially.

 

WOMEN’S  CRAFT  BAZAAR

The women belong to a variety of backgrounds: Women from rural areas, from Chennai’s hutments, middle class women and economically disadvantaged women.  They are self-employed, employ other women, market goods made by women and so on. 

 

The potential of the entrepreneur varies from pottery to pickle making to weaving and garment manufacturing. There are varying items such as textiles, crafts, jewellery, food and health and unique vaastu items. The items are on sale and the entire proceeds of the sales goes to the participants. This is a worthy cause which encourages women to help themselves.  All expenses are covered by C.P. Art Centre.

 

Over 40 women’s groups are participating. All proceeds from the sales go to the women and/or the women’s organizations, which include Women’s India Association (WIA), NAAM Foundation and others, apart from those supported by the C.P. RAMASWAMI AIYAR FOUNDATION.

 

The exhibition and sale will be on in all the 3 galleries of C. P. Art Centre, 1 Eldams Road, Alwarpet, Chennai 600018, from March 7 to 12, 2013, from10.00 a.m.to 7.00 p.m.

Smt. SUHASINI MANIRATNAM will inaugurate the exhibition on March 7, 2013 at 10.30 a.m.    

 

The C.P. Ramaswami Aiyar Foundation, through its various constituents, has been actively involved in women’s development by:

·         Imparting training in crafts, horticulture and vermicomposting to women for income generation

·         Organising exhibitions of crafts made by women
