Workshop on Disaster risk reduction

 

CHITRAL:  A five days long training workshop on integrated community Base disaster risk reduction (ICBRR) was started here in a local hotel of Chitral. The training workshop was organized by Hashoo Foundation in collaboration with Hope 87 funded by European commission. At first this training was launched for three union councils of Chitral like Chitral town, Ayun and Shoghoor. The organizer distributed census forms among its volunteer participants to collect data in these union councils. The program was started with the recitation from the Holy Quran. Program Coordinator ACO retired Miftahuddin welcome to distinguished guests and participants of the workshop. Regional Program Manager Hashoo Foundation Sultan Mahmood briefed the stake holders about aim and objectives of this training workshop. He said that Pakistan is on disaster thread and we should to be ready mentally to overcome any type of disaster and natural calamity. He said that Chitral was listed in zone 4 due to its vulnerability and hazard it has been declared red zone and it can be hit any time by disaster (earthquake). He said that we had sent a proposal and after approval of the same we implementing this proposal in three union councils at initial stage that is Chitral, Ayun and Shoghor. As well as an memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between Secretary Education and Hashoo Foundation regarding implementation of these principles and rules regulations  in their jurisdiction through active participation of education department. And it will be elaborated that what role can play education department in this regard. At first we will launched our programs in 20 schools as well as 80 teachers would be trained for onward training to other staff he added. And a big school at each union council would be declared as shelter and community safe place without its demolishing. 

 

After that a series of different training will be started in the region to create awareness among the masses as well as to motivate the general public to adopt safe measurement in construction of houses etc to reduce disaster risk. He emphasized on participants to attend this fruitful workshop not only training for training but training for learning. Jamil Bhatti Psychologist and other experts were facilitators and master trainer on the occasion. Educationists, teachers, social workers and people belonging to different professions attended this training workshop on volunteer basis which will be continuing for 5 days. A large number of women folk and men from Kalash community also participated in the workshop.
