Leh, October 17 (Scoop News) – The Jammu and Kashmir State Commission for Women organized a two day workshop-cum-training on Gender Budgeting for officers of district Leh at Leh today.
The workshop was chaired by the Chairperson, J&K State Commission for Women, Advocate Shamim Firdus.
Speaking on the occasion Shamim Firdous said that the women folk have been facing multifarious hardships in every spheres of life. Therefore, the motive and responsibility of Women Commission was to educate every section of women to fight for their rights. She said now the women are comparatively educated and they are much capable to contribute in policy decisions. She further said that it will be an honor for J&K State if we succeed to fill up the gap between men and women in terms of opportunity, rights and participation. Speaking about the workshop, she said that Gender Budgeting doesn’t mean a separate budget for women but it is within the budget of a Govt. She hoped that this workshop will be a very successful one particularly for the women folk.
Earlier, Smt. Hafiza Muzaffar, Secretary, State Commission for Women, welcoming the resource persons and officers of Leh explained in detail about the concept of Gender Budgeting. She informed the workshop that it is the 15th Workshop in the J&K State on the Gender Budgeting.
Later, in the technical session, Dr. Ritu Dewan, Prof. Centre for Women’s Studies/Gender Economics, Coordinator, UNDP Centre for Human Development, Department of Economics, University of Mumbai gave a detail presentation about Gender Concepts. Ms. Srabani, Gender Consultant, Orissa also gave a presentation on “Five step frame work and entry points for gender budgeting” through a Power Point presentation.
