World Bank To Assist Anambra State

The Country Director of World Bank for Nigeria, Mr.Onno Ruhl has unfolded three programme areas the world organization is to embark upon to assist Anambra State.

Ruhl listed the programmes as Health, Agriculture and Environment.

He said during a courtesy call on Governor Peter Obi at the Government House Awka, that the bank will be collaborating with the state Government to expand its programmes in those sectors to deliver visible results.

According to him, the bank is working to expand its on-going Health System Development Project to promote primary healthcare delivery as well as the various HIV and AIDS programmes.

He also said the bank was promoting the FADAMA programme to empower and encourage small scale farmers to greater productivity while assisting industries to grow and expand in order to create more employment opportunities.

According to Ruhl, the Bank will equally be working with the State Government on urban management and sanitation to clean up the state, create viable investment climate as he commended Governor Obi for the active participation of the state in World Bank Programmes.

He assured that some of the expansion programmes will take off within the second quarter of this year.

Governor Obi thanked the World Bank for identifying with the development vision of the state which he noted is an indication that the state is on course and requires the commitment of everybody to achieve the desired result.

Obi assured that the state will fulfill its part of the partnership, and explained that his administration is determined to put the right system in place for efficient management of available resources by building a result-oriented human infrastructure.
