ANANTNAG/Srinagar,July 23 (Scoop News) -The District Institute of Education and Trainings (DIET) organized day long awareness campaign on World Health Day at DIET Premises Anantnag. Almost 50 students from various High and Higher Secondary Schools of district Anantnag took part in the campaign a debate on the subject was held wherein all the student participants participated actively and threw light on the genuine health concerns of the old aged people.
The debate was inaugurated by the Principal DIET Anantnag. Among others the function was attended by District Health Officer, Dr. Fazli, HODs, Faculty members, escort teachers and the students. Prizes were finally given away among the students.
Zubair Ahmad Sheikh of Class 10th of Boys High School, Khanabal bagged first position while as Burha Abas, Class 9th of Boys High School, Qazigund, Iqra Sajad, Class 9th of Government Higher Secondary School, Kadipora, Masrat Class 9th of Government Higher Secondary School, Wanpoh secured 2nd position and Surya Rahman class 10th of Higher Secondary School, Wanpoh bagged 3rd position.
At the concluded of the function, the Co-ordinator of the CMDE Wing DIET, Anantnag thanked the participants to make the programme success.
BUDGAM: Meanwhile, World Population Stabilization Fortnight celebration started at Block Medical Officer, Budgam from July 11 to July 24, 2012 with the theme of "Khushhali Ka Aadhar : Chhota Parivar".
Speaking at the occasion, Chief Medical Officer, Budgam Dr. Aleem-u-Din informed that community members of the area shall strive hard to spread awareness for this national cause and reduce unsafe abortion, unsafe pregnancies and deliveries. He said that limited resources can be used wisely. ‘Let us reduce unsafe and unwanted pregnancies’ is the campaign started by Health functionaries.
Block Medical Officer, Budgam, Dr. Tabasum Shah emphasized the need to break the ice, overcome the inhibition to discuss the need for family planning. He said every adolescent who is getting married must know about responsible reproductive and sexual health behaviour. He also emphasis should be laid on right age of marriage, delay in first pregnancy, proper spacing for 2nd Child and then a cut on too many pregnancies. He said that unwanted pregnancies lead to unsafe abortion or complicated delivery and birth, thus increasing the maternal and child deaths. He said that the role of elderly members in the family is important in imparting the education to newlywed couples.
Dr. Shazia Kachroo (LAS under NRHM) said that there is no doubt that population explosion and controlling, it is a serious challenge for the govt. He said population is a great human resource which paves way for socio-economic and cultural development in a society but its excess is a curse which produces a wide variety of impediments to development of the society. Citing the high cost of education and rocketing price of essential items, he expressed that time has come to opt for quality human resource rather than quantity, he added.
