World heritage day observed at Jammu

Jammu, November 19, (Scoop News)-In connection with observance of World Heritage Week, the Jammu and Kashmir Art, Culture and Languages today organised a 3 day heritage exhibition at Kala Kendra here.
The exhibition displayed historical manuscripts, artefacts, paintings, coins, traditional dresses of Dogras’, Kashmiri Muslims and Pandits, Pahari, Gujjar and Ladakhis, besides musical instruments dating from 16th to 20th century.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Commissioner /Secretary, Tourism and Culture, Shalindra Kumar.
Secretary Culture Academy, Mr Haroon Rashid and Additional Secretary Culture Academy, Dr. Arvinder Singh Aman was among others present on the occasion.
Himalayan Heritage Museum and Viraj Art Gallery Jammu also have their stalls at the exhibition displaying Samavars, Hukas, Chakla Belans, Brass- Copper thals of 16th to 19th century, coins of Kushan, Mughal, Kashmir Sultan, Karhata and Lodhi Dynasties, Dogra, Sikh, British and Republic India periods.
The manuscripts of Punjabi Gurmukhi, Sanskrit books with attractive calligraphy as old as two and half centuries and different images of Lord Vishnu of 16th to 18th century were also showcased at the exhibition.
Commissioner/Secretary, Tourism and Culture, who was the chief guest on the occasion accompanied by other dignitaries, went around the stalls and evinced keen interest in each artefact. He revealed that these historical artefacts and manuscripts are the treasure trove of the State. He emphasized upon the concerned for proper preservation of cultural heritage of the State and hoped that museum work at Mubarak Mandi would be completed well in time, which he said will prove beneficial to preserve the rare cultural heritage.
A large number of people from different walks of life today visited the exhibition that will remain open up to 21st November.
