Srinagar, May 18 – In connection with the World Hypertension Day Ikhlas Welfare Society Kashmir organized a medical camp on Monday at Khangund Tral, in Kashmir about 53 kms from Srinagar,the summer capital.
This year’s theme was "Salt and High Blood Pressure: Two Silent Killers".
During the camp hundreds of patients of High Blood Pressure were treated and health education was imparted to all. Drugs provided by Cadila Company were given free to all patients.
It was informed that 25 to 30 percent population in Kashmir is suffering from hypertension and the consumption of salt is around 12 grams per day.
The experts urged the participants to reduce salt intake by half which would save approximately 2.5 million people a year dying of strokes, heart attacks and chronic kidney diseases worldwide.
The experts informed that the World Health Organization (WHO) and several countries around the world currently recommend reducing salt intake to six grammes a day which is equivalent to one teaspoon.
