On Thursday, May 8, Democratic co-frontrunner Barack Obama of Illinois explained that if elected US President this November, the biggest thing he could pull off would be dealing with both Iraq and Afghanistan. At the same time, Obama said he could improve the United States’ “standing in the world.”
However, Obama still has to deal with Democratic co-frontrunner Senator Hillary Clinton of New York. Both Clinton and Obama are still fighting it out for the Democratic Nomination. So far, Obama leads Clinton in the delegate count. But, there are other factors in play such as the superdelegates and the contests of both Michigan and Florida.
Then, there is also getting past presumed GOP nominee Senator John McCain of Arizona. A recent CNN News/Opinion Research Corp. poll has explained that McCain edges over Clinton and Obama in regards to Iraq. However, another CNN News/Opinion Research Corp. poll also shows that the economy is at the top of the minds of most Americans.
Obama also said that he took offense when McCain said that Hamas wanted him to be the United States President. He also said that his policy is not any different than the one by McCain.
In this interview, Obama said that the world has been disappointed in and disillusioned with the United States. He adds that if the United States gets back to its senses, it will set the tone for a world that is more people and prosperous. Obama linked Iraq with energy policy, global warning, and the state of the economy.
Obama also brushed off headlines that said he was the Democratic nominee. He said that he didn’t want to be jinxed. This shows that Obama is a superstitious person. But, there is a strong indication that Obama could end up the nominee.
Obama got a major win over Clinton in regards to the North Carolina primary. At the same time, Clinton only defeated Obama in Indiana by just only two points. Ultimately, it would seem as if Clinton had lost the contest. Even aides to Clinton are doubtful about the future of her candidacy.
Currently, DNC Chair Howard Dean said there will be a compromise reached in regards to Florida and Michigan. He did say that the other forty-eight states need to be respected because they played by the rules. Florida and Michigan were stripped of their delegates for violating DNC rules for holding their primaries too early.
In this regard, Obama said that the world wants to see the United States as the “leader” again.
