A hotel in Kerala has set out to bake its way into the record books. Uday Samudra Leisure Resort here will make the world’s largest cake on Christmas Eve.
Raja Gopal Iyer, director of the hotel, informed that the cake would be 30 feet long, two feet wide, would weigh nearly 2,500 kg and will be cut into 22,000 pieces.
"We are attempting to break the present record held by Mercure Hotel in Bangkok who made a cake which was 27 feet long and was cut into 19,212 pieces," said Iyer.
Nearly 200 kg of flour, 120 kg of sugar, 70 kg of mixed fruit and 50 kg of icing and dry fruits each will go into making the record-breaking cake, he said.
"The baking will take eight hours and 10 people will be working full time on it," said Iyer.
The hotel will distribute the pieces to the poor in various charitable organisations in the city.
In October, the hotel had built what it claimed to be the world’s largest sandwich – nearly 50 feet long.
