World’s Cheapest Car Nano Rolls in Calcutta on April Fool’s Day

Just six months after Ratan Tata declared Nano pull out from Singur, three Nanos were roving in Calcutta streets drawing curious onlookers and became the talk of this metro city on the April Fool’s day. Giving a befitting silent reply to the politics of violence and anti-industrialization drive of Mamata Banerjee, Ratan Tata managed to send three Nanos from Tata’s Pantnagar plant to the city for first day first show. After the road shows the cars were put in various showrooms.

The three Nano cars were big attraction to the crowd, which included curious onlookers to serious buyers gathering before the showrooms situated at three different locations in Calcutta, viz, 1. Lexus Motors at AJC Bose Road, KB Motors, Ballygunj Circular Road and RD Motors at VIP Road.

The price range of Nano was however much above the declared price of Rs. 100000 at the time of laying foundation ceremony of Singur plant. The on road price of different models of Nano in Calcutta is as follows:-

  1. Nano Standard (Solid): Rs.1,54,668
  2. Nano CX (Solid)         : Rs.1,84,532
  3. Nano CX (Metallic)    : Rs.1,87,636
  4. Nano LX (Metallic)     : Rs.2,10,047

The reasons higher price in Calcutta is partly due to the policy of Mamata Banerjee who drove the car out of Bengal resulting in price escalation of Rs.7400 required for transporting the car from Uttarakhand plant to Calcutta, while price was higher by about Rs.13000 because of higher tax incidence in Bengal.
