Toronto/Canada,April 24 (Scoop News) -RadioKash.com has launched a new online radio service that broadcasts Kashmiri Music, 24 hours a day through the internet, and on Smart Phones such as iPhone, and Blackberry.
The first online Radio station of its kind, RadioKash has taken Kashmiri music from the Kashmir Valley and is promoting it to audiences worldwide. RadioKash.com is an initiative undertaken by a Canadian- Kashmiri non profit organization. The station has been online for a few months and the stream of listeners is steadily increasing.
RadioKash.com currently broadcasts various genres of Kashmiri music. Traditional Songs, Chakkar, Rouf and Sufiana Kalam by renowned Kashmir singers such as Ghulam Mohammed Sufi, Shameema Azad, Waheed Jeelani, Arti Tikku, Bhajan Sopori and other renowned musicians and singers from the valley are some of the popular choices that are played.
"The goal of starting this radio station is to promote Kashmiri Music and Kashmiri Heritage, first to Kashmiri people and then to the rest of the world. Kashmiri expatriates worldwide are cut off from the valley and need to connect back to their roots, and music is the best medium to do so", said a representative. "We also want to promote Kashmir musicians to audiences worldwide and why not by providing a service that benefits singers, musicians and audiences all at once. Music has been known to join nations and prevent wars, and Kashmir is in need of such a thing.”
In order to protect the intellectual property rights of musicians and artists, music from the site is not available for download just like any other radio station. “Our cultural fabric is very rich and has a history that goes back thousands of years. Preserving this for future generations is a challenge and this is just a small step we have undertaken”, said the spokesperson.
Listners can enjoy Kashmiri music at www.RadioKash.com while iPhone users can visit TuneIn.com or www.shoutcast.com to add the station to their playlist. The station is also available on facebook and twitter.
