John Edwards’ game-changing endorsement yesterday of Democratic candidate Barack Obama brings even more fuel to Obama’s already unstoppable momentum. But will it lead to an Obama/Edwards ticket? And would the duo be a winning combination?
Most political discussion on a joint ticket between the too was somewhat reversed, coming in 2006 and 2007, and questioning the possibility of an Edwards/Obama run. Pundits agreed it could beat Senator Clinton.
Now The Guardian’s Deadline USA looks at the possibility and notes American responses.
They cite Jill Zuckman, the Chicago Tribune’s political writer, who said, "They looked fantastic together. They looked like a ticket."
But Robbie at the New York Times asked, "Some might look at it as strange for Edwards to be the VP candidate twice in a row. I wonder if that has ever happened before, after losing as a VP candidate."
Earlier in the cycle, Paul Rogat Loeb an Edwards supporter and author of The Impossible Will Take a Little While, spoke glowingly of an Edwards/Obama or "Edwama" ticket. Loeb said that supporters for both, "see them together as powerful standard-bearers."
