WOULD MODI/NDA SUPPORT SUBRAMANIA SWAMY’S ‘SAVE THE RAJAPAKSE’ GANG FROM THE UNHRC’S SL GENOCIDE INVESTIGATIONS PROJECT TO ALLOW THE TOTAL EXTINCTION OF EELAM TAMILS?
The remarkable progress of the UNHRC’s investigations into the SL genocide crimes is attributable to the professionalism of the UNHRC office. It rattled not only the Rajapakses and most of his lobbyists and apologists attempting to sabotage the UNHRC investigations relating to the SL genocide. The UNHRC has ample evidence on the killings of Eelam Tamils, their torture, humiliation, dispossession of their lands and livelihood and massive displacements of Tamils to cause floods of refugees from their habitat creating both internal and overseas refugees. Reacting, the enlightened international community opted to intervene and bring SL to account for the SL genocide to face penal consequences to deliver justice for the genocide victims. The Rajapakses had the enthusiastic support of Sonia and South Block to use deceits to frustrate UNHRC’s efforts to enforce accountability for the SL genocide on the Eelam Tamils.
To counter the progress of the UNHRC’s crimes project an alarmed Rajapakses signed up groups of lobbyists, apologists, mercenaries, arms dealers and others from different backgrounds worldwide to strengthen the ‘save the Rajapakses’ campaign to completely wipe out the Eelam Tamils’ from the face of Eelam. The xenophobic SL rulers and its army of apologists to justify continuing genocide initially denied any crimes were committed yet the apologists earned for the Rajapakses a five years reprieve (during the UPA’S five years tenure) since the end of the war in May 2009. SL invested heavily in a public relations campaign to triviliase the harm that SL inflicted on the victims of the genocide and applaud SL’s folklore reconciliation and reconstruction works of the Rajapakses allegedly benefitting the Eelam Tamils.
In denying the genocide charges Sonia/South Block underworld enthusiastically joined the ‘save the Rajapakse’ campaign demonizing the Tamil resistance (LTTE) with stories about their brutality. These failed to impress the human rights organizations and most sections of the independent media. The Sonia/South block collaborators contributed the most to the SL genocide wiping out almost half the Eelam Tamils (killings using massacres, and oppression to drive out Eelam Tamils from their historical habituation in the North and East of SL) and committing as much or more of Rajapakses genocide crimes.
To complement the massive amount of credible evidence available in the public domain , the UNHRC’s efforts to seek direct confirmation from victims of the crimes, Sonia/South Block ganged up to use country visa regulations to outrageously refuse visas to the UNHRC investigators, intimidating potential witnesses and using breeds of phony lobbyists, apologists and media houses to produce incredible stories be-littleing the genocide atrocities not meeting the standards of probity expected by independent international investigators of genocide crimes.
Whether justice to the Eelam Tamils is delivered through the UNHRC mechanism will depend on more and more morality driven members supporting the UNHRC mission. Modi/NDA Delhi falls within this class of morality driven members unlike the Sonia/South Block tribe that supports SL in sabotaging UNHRC’s investigative work. The keenness of Sonia/South Block Delhi to sabotage UNHRC investigations is attributed to the Rajapakses using a ‘in the loop’ alibi to implicate Sonia/South Block in the SL genocide which is also a dilemma for Modi/NDA Delhi.
Modi on his electoral triumph had unrelated mobs of hangers-on (Subramania Swamy and Swapan, Chari and others) keen to join The Modi camp and come up with lucrative stories claiming to act as spokesmen of Modi/NDA and basically denying and/belittling the harshness of the SL genocide and praising the bogus post May 2009 army related works as remarkable reconstruction and reconciliation works of the Rajapakses benefitting the Eelam Tamils, the genocide victims. These hirelings of the Rajapakses also had the support of SL apologists notably Charles S Perera, Shenali Waduge, Rohan Gunaratne, the Defense Secretary’s office all denying the SL crimes and pleading with the UNHRC to absolve the Rajapakses of involvement in the SL genocide crimes being investigated by the UNHRC investigators.
Accordingly the ‘save the Rajapakses’ gang was prepared to go back 70 years of SL history to explain the logic for the SL violence. It is common knowledge that the ‘Sinhala Only’ Act undoubtedly led to regular Sinhala Buddhist mob violence (Gal Oya, repeated riots in Colombo 1965, 1969, 1973, 1983 until the LTTE put an end to them) on the Eelam Tamils fighting for Tamil rights following the Sinhala Only legislation. The Shenali story gradually got shriller in her ‘Sinhala policy; Tamil “Tamil rights” and the validity of calling Sinhala/Buddhists extremists in sly” Eurasia 17 Jan 2013. Swami repackages the Shenali story elevating it to call it the new Modi doctrine in his ‘save the Rajapakses’ speech delivered in the Defense Seminar of 21 August 2014. A summary of Swamy speech appeared in the ‘onlanka.com; ‘lesson from dr subramania swamy to sri lankas minority tamils’. According to SWAMY the ‘Modi doctrine’ urges Tamils to become stakeholders of the Sri Lankan nation…not to think themselves separate entities…and expect and appeal for external parties (India) to come to their aid’. Most readers would have Subrammania Swamy using Shenali’s phraseology.
In essence the new Modi doctrine of Swamy is intended to urge the Tamils to abandon their fight for non – existent Tamil rights, complaining to lose their stakeholder status in the SL nation and thinking themselves as separate entities needlessly. In this context Swamy ‘also acknowledged that India under Modi like Sonia is happy ..with Sonia’s decision to ‘fight the LTTE to its end ..to provide ‘security for India’.
In her piece importantly Shenali rationalizes that Tamil was never used in governance during colonial rule and even during post independence, how can Tamils claim they were denied this right. Further the anti-Tamil apologist Swamy also followed that the ‘Tamils complained about the denial of Tamil usage, Tamils were studying and using English in employment along with their Sinhala counterparts. How much more cruel could Swamy be to the SL genocide victims, the Tamils. Do these Shenali/Swamy statements have historical substance? For both Shenali/Swamy to claim that when gained independence at the same time how come that Tamil was not but Sinhala only was used as in governance explaining the reason for the Sinhala only ACT of 1955 with the Tamils complaining of discrimination and blaming Sinhala/Buddhist extremism leading the frequent and repeated eruption of Sinhala/Buddhist attacks on the Tamils following the Sinhala only Act of 1955.
Though Shenali’s theorising attempts to delink the Sinhala only act and the frequent unleashing of violence on the Tamils and Swamy dignifying the Sinhalas/Tamils conflict as not ethnic or even merely linguistic in character. However to the prejudiced rabid anti-Tamil Swamy the 13 Amendment does not find a place in Swamy’s solutions in his new Modi view address to the Defense Seminar. Swamy was easily indoctrinated by Shenali to easily become a convert to the ‘save the Rajapakses’ campaign to begin repeating his mantra that the Rajapakse crimes are not genocide crimes to urge MODI/NDA not to support UNHRC’s SL crimes investigations. Swamy is a frequent flyer to Colombo and boasts about his positions in the Modi/NDA regime including being Chairman of BJP’s Committee for Strategic Action. Sheshadai (RSS) and Swapan Dasgupta who joined the delegations to SL claimed also to commit the Modi/ NDA government to Swamy’s new Modi new policy of saving the Rajapakses’ for which ‘devolving powers to provinces under the 13 Amendment had to be abandoned (Deccan Chronicle, Jun 2014). G L Peiris who with Rajapakse attended Modi’s swearing explained that the 13 amendment though it was in the Indo-Lanka Accord and in SL’s statute books ‘cannot be implemented’.
On this basis SL analysts in Outlook India 28 Aug 2014..argued that SL being a unitary state..had no minorities and the 13 amendment..according to Chari..was the product of a particular situation that existed in1987 and in the changed circumstances should be abandoned!’. While Swamy claimed that he had..Modi’s mandate to deal with Lankan affairs…. led a candid analyst in Outlook to describe Swamy as a BJP’s ‘strategy chief’ running amok in his self appointed role as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the SL rulers..’
According to Swami the minorities ..had a disproportionate share in the services and the university positions..once the Tamils lived in normalcy..with the security goal of India.. achieved as a collateral gain. According to the grapevine Modi/NDA was unlikely to tamely accept the Rajapakse’s threat to implicate Sonia/South Block for the ‘in the loop’ complicity in the SL genocide apparently allowed Swamy to act as a go between Sonia and Modi and saving both Rajapakse and Sonia.
The day after Swamy spoke in the Defense seminar in Colombo in August he began to pontificated on what the Tamils should do, ‘give up Tamil/TNA negativity’ to join the efforts of the ‘save the Rajapakses’ to achieve a political solution to the SL question and .’ What was reported was totally different from all Swamy’s verbiage at the Defense Seminar compared to what transpired at the meeting the very next day in Modi’s office between TNA officials and Modi/Sushma/Indian foreign minister effectively repudiating Swamy’s commitments to SL as the official representative of the Modi/NDA regime. (In contrast The New Indian Express 10 September reported New Delhi reiterated its commitment that it stood solidly behind TNA in its objective to get substantial autonomy in Tamil areas. On the 13th Amendment urged all stakeholders in a gesture of goodwill to constructively engage to find a political solution on the basis of the 13the Amendment. Here it was reported the..Subramania Swamy is reported to have stated that the PM will not meet the TNA without approval of the SL government. Swamy also stated that SL does not have an ethnic problem but only a linguistic problem, is far off the mark.. in effect an important milestone in India’s SL policy’.
On the reconstruction and reconciliation works in SL, Swamy attempts to make a case for Modi/NDA to change over from the Sonia/South Block SL/China appeasement stance; Modi/NDA has not broached this subject thus far. In the Defense Seminar Swami apparently agreed with Shenali over the Tamils continually complaining about what is not given and..What cannot be given; looking all issues from the lens of rights..?and compelling the majority to unite and to reduce the minority problems into irrelevance. The external players that preyed upon the minorities for their own agenda will walk away realizing that the minorities problems are now irrelevant..Expanding on what Sri Lanka can accept under the Swami’s new Mode path doctrine is that India should only take in those in India’s national interests and not bow down to narrow TN interests.
On the re-opening of the railway line to Jaffna recently built on total Indian funding the SL hypes was that it was essentially SL’s reconciliation/reconstruction projects for the benefit of Eelam Tamils. The SL’s approach down plays Delhi‘s contribution to Eelam Tamils’ hardships. This is bound to hurt Modi/NDA’s India first sensitivities.
Likewise when the Rajapakses built at a great speed all the roads to the North and East most funded by non-SL sources the Rajapakses claimed that they were essentially projects to provide improved facilities for the SL military establishment or occupying forces not reconstruct the damage caused to Eelam Tamil civilian assets who live mostly under tin shelters. The sinister Rajapakese approach shows how inconsiderate is SL to Delhi’s interests when Chinese sub-marines were allowed to dock in for long periods also in the Colombo harbor and to sneakily prowl in the Palk seas, both major security threats to India especially in the soft ‘underbelly’ the TN area.
At the PM’s in-auguration function of the railway line north to Jaffna SL also leaked the Rajapakses’ plans to replicate a major Hambantota Chinese military presence in the Delft island (another Katchchativu threat) in the vicinity of TN. This is where the South Block’s treachery works to appease the Rajapakses and Sonia/South Block, Swamy and Rajapakses’ lobbyists/apologists hold out the China card to tame Modi/NDA not to pursue support for the UNHRC genocide investigations and play the China card to keep out the western powers from interfering in the affairs of the oceon region.
That the threat to India’s soft underbelly does not unnerve the Swamy like apologists; will the Modi/NDA proposal to pursue the Sethu Samudra project to face the growing China/SL threat encircling India from all sides menacingly is sufficient to withstand the onslaught of threats created by the Sonia/South Block/Swamys joint efforts.
