Katra/Jammu,(Scoop News)- Wrestler Yudhvir of Haryana India won the 8th Mission Dosti International Indian Style wrestling title at jam packed Vivekanand Sports Stadium, Katra by defeating his England rival wrestler Leon in the final bout on Sunday.
The wrestling championship was organized as a part of Navratra Festival by the J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association with the active support of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board(SMVDSB), J&K Tourism Department, Jammu and Kashmir Police, Navratra Festival Committee, Katra Municipal Committee, District Administration and locals of Katra.
In other main contests, Wrestler Vikram of U.P, India defeated Wrestler Mohd Azam of Pakistan, Wrestler Paru of India defeated Pakistani Wrestler Jiwan Anwar. Likewise Indian Wrester Rinku of Delhi defeated Ukraine Wrestler Harab.
The Minister for Youth Services and Sports, R.S.Chib who was the chief guest on the occasion complemented the J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association, SMVDSB, District Administration and all other agencies for holding prestigious wrestling event at Katra to promote goodwill between the different countries.
Chib said that India always favored pleasant relationship with Pakistan adding that efforts are being made to promote peace and brotherhood in the sub continent through the medium of sports. The Minister said that government is committed to create adequate sports infrastructure in the state to enable the young players to display their sports talent in a big way adding that such activities promote harmony, brotherhood and peace.
Wrestler Yudhvir was awarded Silver Gurj, Patta and cash prize of Rs.55,000 and the runner up got cash reward of Rs.45,000.
On the occasion Olympian Wrestler Yogeswar Dutt and President J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association, Shiv Kumar Sharma was also honored.
District Administration has made elaborate arrangements of security, traffic regulations, drinking water and power supply and sanitation etc.
Among others, Legislatures, Balwant Singh Mankotia, Baldev Raj Sharma, Jugal Kishore Sharma, Lal Chand, Bharat Bhusan, DIG, Jagjit Kumar, Senior Superintendent of Police, Raghubir Singh, Addl. SP, Mohan Lal, President Wrestling Federation of India, Ram Aasrey Yadav, President J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association, Shiv Kumar Sharma, Members of the Navratra festival committee, prominent citizens, large number of yatris and local people were present on the occasion.
