The former pastor to Democratic co-frontrunner Senator Barack Obama, Reverend Jeremiah Wright received much negative light for the past several weeks ever since the controversial speech about America. During the 53rd Annual Fight For Freedom Fund Dinner which was hosted by the Detroit chapter of the NAACP. During his speech in front of at least 10,000 people, Wright said that he was being descriptive and not divisive.
Many of Wright’s old sermons came out and dealt a sizeable amount of damage to the campaign of Barack Obama and had slowed down his momentum. In those old sermons, Wright blamed the US government of being racist.
Earlier today, Wright would speak in front of the National Press Club in Washington, DC. In front of the National Press Club, Wright said that he was not the one under attack. He said that it was the black church that was being attacked.
Wright would stand firm. He was asked about those sermons. Answering, Wright said that the critics have not listened to the entire sermon. He said that it was not his principles. Wright answered that he used principles from the Bible while quoting the ambassador from Iraq in regards to the attacks on September 11, 2001.
Also, Wright gives the explanation that the sound bytes from his sermons were taken out of context and was just exaggeration.
In Wright’s own words, he said that Jesus explains that do to others that you would expect them to do to you. This would be the Biblical version of the “Golden Rules,” which is defined as treat people the way you want to be treated.
With that respect, Wright’s explanation gives off the indication he is saying that going into Iraq has come back to haunt the US government. He could possibly be attacking the administration of current US President George W. Bush as well.
But, Wright hadn’t called Bush out by name. However, nothing is certain. But the speech from Wright was not about attacking anybody. This was mainly about clarifying the old sermons that put him and Obama under fire for the last few weeks.
Like he did at the NAACP dinner, Wright would speak out about his part remarks. Those remarks had put Obama in a world of hurt. But, it is unknown how long this will sting Obama for. However, this still gives off a clear indication that race will continue to be a topic from now until the general elections this November.
