News outlets in South Florida such as WSVN Channel 7 and Bay News 9, have been swamped by users trying to find information about Hurricane Fay, currently heading towards Florida from Cuba.
WSVN, Channel 7 News in Miami, is experiencing so much traffic on their Web site, wsvn.com, that the site is down and unable to help anyone. The Web site for Bay News 9 is also having difficulty staying online due to a huge surge in hurricane traffic. When WSVN.com and Baynews9.com are operational, they have a number of articles and maps to help worried South Florida residents. WSVN is a Fox affiliate based in Miami and Bay News 9 is a cable news channel in Tampa Bay.
Hurricane Fay is expected to climb north up the west coast of Florida this week, causing large ocean swells on the gulf coast but leaving the eastern Atlantic coast mostly out of harm’s way. Like all hurricanes, however, the exact path that Fay will remain unknown as the storm snakes across the Florida peninsula.
