After breaking the world record for 50 metre freestyle earlier in the Paralympic Games, Beijing 2008, Singapore swimmer Yip Pin Xiu broke another world record for 50 metres backstroke with a fabulous timing of 58.75 seconds, way ahead the runner up, Britain’s Fran Williamson. Previously, in the 50 metre freestyle Yip Pin Xiu despite breaking the world record did not managed to get the Gold Medal, instead she won Silver.
This time it was different, the determined swimmer got both the world record and the Gold Medal for 50 metre backstroke.
Paralympic Games, Beijing 2008 had ended on the 17 September 2008 which Singapore had won a total of 4 medals. One Gold and Silver from Yip Pin Xiu and two Bronze from rider Laurentia Tan in the event of equestrian.
All this will go right into the glorious sporting history of Singapore.
