Leh/Jammu,November 25 (Scoop News) – A high-level Youth Congress team led by Amrinder Singh Raja, General Secretary, Indian Youth Congress, and comprising of Shoaib Lone, President, PYC , R. S. Pathania, senior Vice-President, J & K P.Y.C. and Zakir Hussain, Vice-President, J & K P.Y.C. conducted a two-day tour of Leh reviewing relief work in the aftermath of cloudburst in Leh, especially in Maney Tselding, Solar Coloney, Phyang, Saboo, Nimo, Taru, Basgo villages. The Youth Congress leaders further had detailed interactions with P. Namgyal, former Union Minister, T Samphal, President DCC Leh, President Mahila congress Leh, Councillors of LAHDC, Youth congress and NSUI Activists and prominent people of the area with a view to getting at the core of the handicaps and problems faced by the people n account of the unseen tragedy. Minus temperature of 12 degrees and chilly, dry winds were also not able to dampen the spirits of the visiting Youth Congress delegation.
In a detailed fact-finding report flashed to the party high command in New Delhi, Youth Congress has sought enhancement of sanctioned ex-gratia for totally damaged houses needs to Rs 4 lacs from the existing amount of Rs 2 lacs. It has further sought heating systems, kerosene oil, mattresses and enlistment of affected families under BPL/AAY schemes. They have also sought additional funds for building toilets and for fulfilling labour/masonary/carpentry expenses. It had all kudos for the Union Urban Development Ministry in building pre- fabricated rooms/tenements for the affected families. It has pooh-poohed the pace of building shelters as going by the present pace of affairs, people are going to remain houseless in the ensuing winter season. Especially it has sought making of 13 houses in Saboo village at the earliest. It has further sought a package for re-building tourist infrastructure in the area. It has lamented that the cloudburst coupled by irresponsible reporting by certain quarters have done irreparable harm to tourism industry of the area.
Among others who accompanied the Youth Congress delegation included Pranav Shagotra, President, Youth INTUC, Shafiq, T. Namgyal, Mohd. Anees, Stanzin, Gyaltson, Dorjey Martse, Lotus, Skarma Angchok, Shanais, Tsering Spalsam, Gonchok Gailson and other local Youth Congress leaders.
