Youth Is Fleeting

Poetry from Barbara Kasey Smith’s Corner of the World:

A breath of air to nourish the soul
years steal beauty as the body grows old.
It’s hard at times understanding life’s aim
dips in valleys and feeling ashamed.

A young mind ponders life’s forever
believes they’ll live forever and ever.
A body exists for a period of time
age cheats and robs from the sublime.

Beautiful smiles cause wrinkles to appear
a glimpse in a mirror creates anger and fear.
A human must accept that which befalls
expect a spine to shorten…rob the tall.

Youth vanishes in a blink of an eye
leaves a person with a desire to cry.
Don’t become angry and full of pain
in a matter of time you could be lame.

Oldness creeps in to steal a physique
doesn’t promise an image of a statue elite.
Glance in a mirror and offer a smile
enjoy days treading the onward miles.

No-one promises life is an easy task
walk each day as if it’s the last.
Accept what comes along the way
and be happy life is there another day.
