Left-handed pitcher Zach Jackson is headed to the Cleveland Indians as part of their trade with the Milwaukee Brewers for C.C. Sabathia on July 7, 2008. The Indians also got outfielder Matt LaPorta, pitcher Rob Bryson and a player to be named later.
Zach Jackson is a 6’5" 25-year-old hurler with minimal major league experience. Matt LaPorta is a more promising prospect. He was the Brewers’ first-round draft pick in 2007 after batting .402 for the Florida Gators and being named 2007 SEC player of the year.
The Brewers hope that Zach Jackson and Matt LaPorta won’t be missed as they make a run for the 2008 post season led by pitchers C.C. Sabathia and Ben Sheets. Both of these pitchers will be free agents and the end of the 2008 season.
