Zain is taking African music into a higher sphere with several high octane musical events across the continent on the Road to MAMA’s platform in such countries as the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Africa, Kenya and Nigeria; MTV Africa Music Awards with Zainin Abuja, and a solely organised Wyclef Concert in Ghana.
The all star concerts which are jointly organised by the American cable Music TV outfit, MTV and Zain, are carefully designed to stir the musical soul of the continent with a mix of African and American rhythm, leaving the continent richer and deeper at the end of the concert.
To complete its dominance of the African music sphere in 2008, Zain has planned yet another rhythmic rousing in the West African Coastal Country of Ghana as it goes alone with Wyclef Concert in Accra.
Courtesy of Zain Ghana, the Haitian American multi-award-winning musician, actor, producer and philanthropist will perform at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium in Accra on Saturday, November 22, at a concert dubbed The Zain 026 Experience.
The concert, which will also feature 2Face Idibia from Nigeria, Mario and Eve from the United States as well as Obrafour, Kwaw Kese and Tinny from Ghana, is being organised for Zain by TransAfrica Media Limited.
According to Zain the event will be well-staged and will set a high standard for entertainment in the continent for a long time to come.
Wyclef Jean, a well known face in Ghana since his days with the hip-hop trio, Fugees, went solo in 1997 and has sold millions of records. Some of his best-known hits include 911 with Mary J Blige and Hips don’t lie with Shakira.
Alex Okosi, Senior Vice President and managing director, Networks Africa and Norman Moyo, Zain Nigeria’s Chief Marketing Officer, are upbeat that the events will transform the African entertainment industry significantly, bringing waves of fun and music to many across the continent and pushing many African stars further up the global music ladder.
Okosi said the MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain is a truly pan-African ideal that supports talent across the continent.
"We want to give as many people as possible, the opportunity to see the nominees in the flesh, and ultimately to encourage them to vote for their favourite artistes."
Headlining the tour is U.S. rapper, The Game, nominee at MAMA’s Best Hip-hop category. The Game will be supported by several acts who have also been nominated in the inaugural MTV Africa Music Awards.
