In recognition of its contribution to the development of IT in Nigeria, Zinox Computers was for the second year running awarded the Computer Brand of the Year 2007.
The event which held at the MUSON centre in Lagos was graced by the cream of the Nigerian ICT industry as well as the political class. In attendance was the Deputy Governor of Yobe State, Ibrahim Geidam, Christopher Kolade, Nigeria’s former ambassador to the UK, the executive vice chairman, Nigerian Communications Council, Dr. Ernest Ndukwe, Mr. Leo Stan Ekeh, chairman, Zinox Computers, CELTEL Nigeria boss, Mr. Bayo Ligali, CEO Globacom, Mohammed Jameel and a host of other key players in the ICT industry.
In the citation for the award, Zinox was recognised for her landmark efforts in developing the Nigerian educational sector through computerisation of institutions, staff computer ownership scheme and recently the Zinox Students’ Computer Ownership Project.
Z-SCOP is a scheme developed by Zinox and supported by Microsoft and Intel designed to aid students in Nigeria acquire Zinox computers with the payment options of cash or interest free installmental payments with ten percent discount on all systems.
As the manufacturer of Nigeria’s first internationally certified computers and the only Microsoft certified Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) in West Africa, Zinox has remained consistent to her initial promise to give IT a human face. Zinox has also emerged the most viable Intel Premier Partner in sub-Saharan Africa. In its six years of existence, Zinox has supported major projects such as the All Africa Games in 2003, Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Abuja 2003, 18th African Union summit in Banjul, Gambia, 2006, as well the setting up of digital centres to support educational institutions across the country.
The citation for the award emphasised the fact that Zinox Computers have done more than anyone else, corporate or individual to enhance IT penetration in Nigeria. The citation recognised the numerous marketing schemes under the Computerise Nigeria Project through which thousands of customers have enjoyed substantial discounts and flexible payment plans.
It recalled the recent successful interventions by Zinox in several parts of the country – an interactive forum in Katsina State at which 50 systems were
donated to the State Government; the launch of Computers of All Abians in Umuahia that kicked off a computer ownership scheme for
civil servants; the design, installation and management of a WIMAX base station in Damaturu that created a 30 kilometer wireless
environment around Damaturu capital of Yobe State.
Discussing the Award with Journalists at the end of the event, Mrs. Funke Oduntan, GM Marketing, said that it was heart warming to
note that the humble efforts from Zinox were being noticed and rewarded. Mrs Oduntan said that the Award would further motivate the
staff and management of Zinox computers on the undaunted quest to be Africa’s No 1.
