Fighting Zoonisis in Pakistan: Inauguration ceremony of District Zoonosis control office held at Danin Chitral.

CHITRAL: Opening ceremony of District Zoonosis Control office was held at Live Stock Building Danin Chitral. District coordination Officer (DCO) Chitral Reahmatullah Wazir was chief guest on the occasion who cut ribbon and inaugurated DZC office. Dr. Nizamuddin Assistant Director Live Stock thanks the participants and termed opening of this office very useful and beneficial for people of Chitral. He thanked Relief International for opening this office for long term benefit of farmers and peasants of Chitral. Dr. Riaz program Manager of Relief International highlighted aim and objectives of DZCC. He said that this is a series of live stock for life funded by US Department of states for control of Zoonoses in Pakistan. He said that many diseases impact human life from animal and some diseases also impact to cattle from human being. Zoonotic diseases are communicable from animals to human beings and vice versa. He said that some 296 diseases are zoonotic diseases and a very serious threat to public health. Most common zoonotic disease are Tuberculosis, Anthrax, Leshmeniasis, Tetanus, Rabies, Brucellosis, Dengue Fefer, Congo Fever, Bird Flue Mosquito born Malaria etc. he added.
He said main objective of this program is to create awareness and encouraging behavior change through different ways. Prevention and response capacity building of community health workers, public health workers, veterinary health staff zoonosis control committee members print and electronic media and they can play vital role in this regard he added. its second objective is integration of zoonotic diseases surveillance & response management with existing efforts of district, province and federal level. In Pakistan the program is implemented in 5 districts of KPK 3 in Balochistan. Zoonotic control committee stand for zoonotic diseases control constituted by the members of all line department working in the district to support the Bio-security and Bio Safety livestock for life project implemented by Relief International Pakistan.
DCO Chitral also hailed efforts of RI and thanked them for establishing this office to overcome on zoonotic diseases. EDO Health Dr Saad Maluk, Medical Superintendent of DHQ Hospital Dr. Noorul Islam, Divisional Forest Officer Chitral Mahsood, representatives of civil societies and social workers were present on the occasion. Dr. Noorul Islam MS said that 70% of Chitral people depend upon live stock and there is great threat to their lives and now burden on DHQ Hospital will lessen after succession of this program.
