Lahore: According to officials and eyewitnesses, 25 persons have been killed and about 70 injured, most of whom are police, in a blast, apparently suicide attack, outside Lahore High Court and G.P.O. Thursday noon before a scheduled lawyers rally.
The local sources told reporters that a vehicle came near the police who had gathered for security of the rally and and they heard a powerful explosion. Eyewitnesses said that they saw people lying in the pools of blood crying for help.
The laywers hold a protest rally every Thursday and Today’s rally was also planned when this incident took place.
This suicide attack on police is occuring in a politically tense Pakistan and is the bloodiest since the assasination of former premier Benazir Bhutto. A Scotland Yard team for her assasination probe is also visiting Lahore.
