Army foils infiltration bid along LoC in Rajouri district

Jammu, June 09 (Scoop News) – Army troops deployed on the Line of Control, ahead of the fence in the Jhangar Sector of Rajouri District, observed suspicious movement of about three persons at  2300 hours on Friday,Col  R K Palta,PRO (Defence) Jammu said.

He said that as the persons moving ahead of the fence, came closer to the post, they were challenged by  troops.   In response, the persons moving about, went into hiding in the bushes and opened a burst of small arms fire (probably from an AK series weapon).   In retaliation, own troops fired in the direction from where the movement had been observed.  The exchange of fire stopped after 2 to 3 minutes.

The intruders probably retreated taking advantage of the darkness, thick vegetation and the folds of the ground.  However, a search party was launched at day-break to search  for any injured person, or any left over stores, in the vicinity.

The search was  still in progress,Col  R K Palta,said.
