Speaking at the inaugural session of one-day national seminar on ‘socio-cultural heritage of Ladakh’, organized by Government Women’s Degree College, Gandhinagar, in sponsorship of ICSSR, Chandigarh today, Jora said even though the original population of Ladakh consists of Dards, an Indo-Aryan Race, but large scale immigration from Tibet changed the cultural heritage of Ladakh.
Jora said that one of the major highlights of the culture of Ladakh are the monasteries that you will find in almost every village. He said the other dominant faith, that of Islam, finds a presence mainly in Western areas of the region.

Jora said that in terms of development process, Ladakh is much better than other districts of the state. “We are better in electricity, road connectivity, education, health care besides ensuring essential commodities which only become possible that Ladakhi’s are alive to their cultural values inherited from the civilization of their forefathers.
The Minister said foreign tourist’s oftenly appreciated the cultural values of Ladakhi’s which gained confidence among the people of the area.
The Minister appreciated the efforts of the college management for organizing such a seminar which have provide a platform for enriching the cultural heritage of Ladakh among the youth.
Director Colleges, Dr. Sham Lal Gupta, Principal Degree College, Gandhinagar, Prof. Nandni Kohli, Principal Women’s College, Srinagar, Prof. Tadzin Joldan, Principal of different Degree Colleges, Head of Departments of various Universities, Scholars, Intellectuals and students participated in one-day seminar and presented their presentations on the topic.
