Jammu, December 17 (Scoop News) –N. N. Vohra, Governor Jammu and Kashmir, has expressed grief over the tragic loss of lives of six valiant soldiers in a snow avalanche in the Siachen area yesterday.
The Governor spoke to Lt. Gen. K. T. Parnaik, Northern Army Commander, to convey his deep sympathy to the families of those who had lost their lives. The Governor observed that such tragic incidents should remind one and all of the extremely challenging conditions in which our Defence Services personnel were maintaining a constant vigil to protect the country’s territorial integrity, and even laying down their lives in the service of the nation.
It may mention here that on Sunday in a tragic incident, seven army soldiers were martyred of the Army’s 1 ASSAM Regiment when they were buried under an avalanche in Sub Sector Hanif, Turtuk area of the Siachen Glacier in Jammu and Kashmir.
It was said that on Sunday at 6.15 A.M. army posts at a height of over 17000 feet came under an avalanche in Sub Sector Hanif, in Turtuk area of Siachen.
