Quezon City – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is appealing to the Philipine League of the Corporate Foundations (LCF) general membership assembly in a out-reach to private sector stakeholders whose ‘rebel progressive taxation payments’ which th Philippine military is calling ‘extortion taxation’ are inadvertently suporting government’s.foes in its battle with insurgents.
Communist rebels often ‘tax’ corporate firms bsed in the country in normally ever increasing fee’s to operate or suffering sabotage, strikes, or, attacks on staff by the rebels, The Philippine armed forces notes the pattern increasingly involves ‘infiltraited firms’ that are forced to hire or unwittingly have on staff insidered who often provide information to insurgents or create strife in the firms themselves. The Philippine military say that the goals of the rebels increasingly are to infiltraite those firms in the outsourced sector to attempt to gain data access as well.
AFP’s current peace and security initiatives and for the Foundation members to appreciate and to take a stand for the country’s shared responsibility in attaining peace and stability in our country.
The talk also intends to move the members of the corporate group to take a stand against treating rebel groups’ extortion and threats as “normal business risks” which may repudiate the very essence of corporate social responsibility.
Directed by the AFP Chief of Staff, Gen Eduardo SL Oban Jr., the Senior Military Adviser (SMA) to the Government Peace Negotiating Panels (GPNP) BGen Marlou Salazar will talk about the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and peace-building process at the Asian Institute of Management conference center in Makati City
Salazar, together with representatives from the AFP’s Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations, Peace Process Office, Civil Relations Service will suggest to the members of the LCF to embrace the promotion of Peace Building as a CSR advocacy, noting that all of LCF’s programs should thrive in an atmosphere where peace is nurtured, and conflicts are resolved through dialogue, and nonviolent armed struggles. Through public-private partnership and capacity-building for civil-military works and development projects, the AFP together with the stakeholders will be able to fill gaps in resolving challenges to internal peace and security.
The LCF General Membership Assemblies is a quarterly-organized activity by the LCF which start off with a learning session featuring a general topic of interest. The LCF is a network of over 70 operating and grant-making corporate foundations and corporations that promotes and enhances the strategic practice of CSR among its members and the larger business community, towards sustained national development.
“The solution to internal armed conflict involves all sectors of society and every citizen who has a stake in finally concluding our-decades old insurgency problem,” says Salazar.
“This, and sustainable development programs especially for the marginalized communities which is a result of broad partnerships with LCF member organizations are actions essential to achieve the shared goals of winning the peace. LCF members and the AFP will combine efforts in an endeavor of promulgating and practicing the principles of the IPSP ‘Bayanihan’, said Salazar.
“The participation of the Private Sector as an ‘enabling elite’ that truly bridges the socio-economic gaps can counter the insurgents’ propaganda,” Salazar added.
“The Armed Forces have been keeping a close and harmonious relationship with our stakeholders to further strengthen our bond as we attain our shared goal of having just and lasting peace and stability within the country,” says AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Eduardo S.L. Oban Jr.
Implemented last January, the IPSP “Bayanihan” is a plan which guides the AFP in helping the nation attain and maintain internal peace and security in the near and medium-term. It guides the AFP in engaging and supporting other stakeholders in peace and security, a document that is open and available to all stakeholders.
