Back on December 4, the Harry Winston boutique was robbed by several cross-dressing gunmen. Luckily, nobody was hurt in the process. They had made off with over $100 worth of jewels. It is one of the biggest jewel heists in the world. Still, the verdict on who is responsible is still in the air.
Suspicion is aimed at a group called the “Pink Panthers.”
Today, something else would happen. There would be no robbery. Instead, a bomb would be discovered in a major department store. It was not a heist. Instead, it would be a demand issued to French President Nicholas Sarkozy.
The group claiming responsibility for planting the bomb is known as the Afghan Revolutionary Front. Its demand is clear: the group wants France to withdraw its troops from Afghanistan. However, the situation was safe since there was no detonator to the dynamite.
The bomb was found in the third-floor bathroom in the Printemps men’s store.
According to French intelligence, there was no data on that group. On many notes, it does mirror the Mumbai Massacre. However, there was no mass killing in the case of Paris. The group responsible for the Mumbai Massacre called itself the Deccan Mujahideen. According to a British intelligence official, it caught spy agencies with their pants down.
So far, it has not made things easier for Pakistan. The blame has been directed towards Pakistan, which is having its own problems fighting Islamic insurgents in the northwestern part which borders Afghanistan. It is believed that Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden is hiding within the border between both countries.
While there was no detonator with the bomb, it does raise the possibility that such a major place could get hit.
