Mr.Rangarajan,a Tamil writer, whose pseudonym was ‘Sujatha'(the name of his wife), passed away in Chennai, in Apollo Hospitals, Chennai.He was said to be afflicted with pneumonia from which he did not recover, despite of the treatment given to him.He was 73.
Mr.Sujatha is credited with over two hundred novels, short stories, plays, hundreds of articles, etc.He had also been a dialogue writer to a number of Tamil movies like Indian,Kadhalan etc.He was conferred with ‘Kalaimamani’ by the Tamil Nadu Government.
Mr.Sujatha was a versatile, ultra-tech writer ranging from very simple subjects to the most complicated and intricate subjects like computer science.He was an electronics engineer and is also credited with the invention of electronic voting machine, through which our largest democracy is benefited much.
Mr.Sujatha was known for his lucid, simple style mixed with humour.And his main contribution was his presentation of a number of complicated scientific matters in its simplest form which is intelligible even to a below average person.His articles on various subjects on the last page of Kanaiyazi were very popular.
Mr.Sujatha having made a number of compromises for survival in the society, for example, becoming a diologue writer in the Tamil Movies, was not acclaimed or respected by the most serious writers in the Tamil Literary field.Mr.Sujatha himself rued in his last article that he was not given the due place that he ought to have been given in the Tamil literary world.
According to Mr.Sujatha writing is for the sake of just writing and entertainment and not to reform this world.Perhaps he was wrong.
After all many a literary works are said to be the cause of great revolutions like the French Revolution, the Great October Russian Revolution etc.After all Karl Marx’s Das capital is said to be the Bible of Socialism and Communism.Therefore, writers can change the destiny of a nation.Perhaps Mr.Sujatha had his own views which may be wrong.But undoubtedly he was a genius.
