The entire ‘Kolywood’ went on a hunger fast at Chepauk, Chennai, in Tamil Nadu, to show their protest over the incidents that happenned in Karnataka to the theatres that screened Tamil Movies and also to emphasis their right to claim water from Hogenakal.
All leading stars of the Kolywood including the Super Star Rajnikanth, Kamalahasan, Satyaraj, Vijayakanth, Sarathkumar, Vijayakumar ‘Achi’ Manorama, Nayanthara and the office bearers of the South Indian Film Producers Association, FEPSI and other organizations connected with Tamil Film Industry went on a hunger strike enmasse between 0800 AM and 0430 PM on the 4 th of April, 2008.
At Bangalore, the Kannada Film Artists who had earlier originally planned for a hunger fast on the 5 th of April, 2008, rescheduled it and they also went on a hunger strike on the 4 th of April, 2008 and their hunger fast was formally inaugurated by the wife of late.Rajkumar.
On the occasion of their hunger fast programme, many film personalities spoke including the leading stars of the Tamil Industry. Super Star Rajni Kanth was forceful in his veiled attack against the politicians especially against the leaders of BJP, who make a false claim and wantonly creating a dispute in the Ogenakal issue for the sake of electoral gains. He also wondered whether there is any government at the centre, whether there is any Supreme Court in India.
Mr.Satyaraj, was vehement in his attacks against the unscrupulous politicians in Karnataka and compared Tamil Nadu’s right to draw water from Hogenakal to that of his own right over his wife and why should Tamil Nadu ask permission from Karnataka in this regard.
Mr.Vijayakanth, the DMDK President and the actor call upon the Tamil Nadu Government to exert pressure upon the Central Government as done by the left parties in the case of Indo-Nuclear Treaty.
Mr.Sarathkumar, the founder President of the AISMK and actor and the General Secretary of the Tamil Film Industry, call upon the Tamil Nadu Government to exert pressure upon the Central Government to resolve the Hogenakal issue even by threatening to withdraw their support to the Central Government.
The hunger fast clearly revealed the mindframe of the entire Tamil Film Industry and how far they were agitated over the injustice meted out to Tamil Nadu in the Hogenakal issue.
The Hunger Fast ended at 0430 PM., by administering fruit juices to all the participants. It seems that the Hogenakal issue may flare up further, if a timely intervention is not made by the Central Government and an immediate solution is provided to solve the issue.
