PESHAWAR: Two militants were handed over to Grand Jirga in return of the safe release of Doctor Akhtar Jan Kohistani, the media advisor of Ministery of Rural Rehabilitation of Afghanistan in the Upper Dir, in north of Pakistan.
Akhtar Kohistan was also released yesterday after a written agreement between the militants and the 30-member Grand Jirga (group of local elders). The handed over two militants include a local and an afghan national, who were made captive during a clash with Meena Dhog people. Akhtar Kohistani has been abducted from the area of Daroosh, outskirts of the Chitral on November 03, 2008 from the house of his father-in-law Shah Maither, elder brother of prince Mahaee Din, belong to royal family of Chitral. Kohistani also had made an attempt of escape from the jail of militant, but he was re-captured. “i am very thankful to the people of Meena Dhog and jirga members for making his release and give him a new life”, Akhtar Kohistani told to media men in Upper Dir. He said that after kidnapping he traveled for more than 50 hours continously.
“the release of Kohistani and the two militants was carried out as a result of a written 03-points agreement between the militants and the Grand Jirga. “militants will leave this area, militants will not doing an armed patroling in the area and all the besieged persons will be releasd”, according to the agreement.
